The Colorado River

1,450 miles. Begins in Rocky Mountain National Park on the western side of the Continental Divide. And that’s where our story in pictures begins as well.

Colorado National Monument. You can see the river far into the distance.

Not far across the Colorado Utah border is Castle Valley and Fisher Towers and from that vantage point you can see the river and the Book Cliffs.

You then follow the river through the canyons on Utah’s Upper Colorado River Scenic Byway 128.

Dead Horse Point State Park in Utah has a great view of the mighty river as it cuts the red canyon lands.

You can see the river briefly as you descend the Shafer Trail and travel on the White Rim Road in Canyonlands National Park Islands in the Sky.

Lees Ferry in Glen Canyon National Recreation Area shows where the San Juan meets the Colorado River.

Navajo horses at Lees Ferry just over the Colorado River and then the amazing Navajo Bridge which suspends you above the raging waters.
